3 Reasons Why You Should Go to the Gym Instead of Working Out at Home

Working out at home is easier now than it’s ever been. There’s no shortage of home workout products available, and chances are, if you want to target even the most obscure muscle group, someone out there has invented something for it.

And so, a lot of people are beginning to ask the question: why even go to a gym at all? At Circuit 31 Fitness, we can think of a few reasons why.

1. All the Equipment You’ll Need for Any Exercise

While there is a multitude of diverse equipment for home workouts, there is a significant drawback: you have to pay money for each and every one, and every piece of equipment you buy is going to take up more and more space. If you don’t have the money and room to accommodate a countless number of workout contraptions, you’re probably relying on free weights. If the latter is true, you’ll be able to adequately perform a wide variety of great exercises, but not as effectively as if you were using a machine specifically designed to target a certain muscle group.

At a gym, you have all the equipment you need, for any exercise under the sun. This is especially true at Circuit 31 Fitness; because we’re a circuit training gym, we’ve got something to work out every part of the body. Another advantage to having all the equipment available and ready is that it’s more efficient — you won’t ever have to worry about switching weights over and over for different exercises (a time-consuming hassle that is an unfortunate drawback of disc weights).

2. Higher Investment Means Higher Commitment

When you go to a home gym, it’s more of a commitment than a home workout for a few reasons — gyms require an entry fee or a paid membership, and they require you to get up, leave your house, and travel to your destination.

It might sound disingenuous to say that paying money is a reason why gym workouts are better than home workouts, but hear us out. When you’re paying money for something, it generally creates more of a mental obligation to commit to it. People don’t want to feel like they’re wasting money, so getting off their butt and going to the gym is a good way to avoid the guilt from sunk costs.

3. No Distractions

Come on, admit it. There’s a never-ending siren song of distractions when you’re working out at home. Some people are disciplined enough to avoid the temptations, but many (if not most) are not. You’ve got a TV. You’ve got fluffy pets. You’ve got family members and/or roommates. You’ve got that box of donuts sitting on the counter (well, hopefully you don’t, but anything can happen). The point is, any of these things and more can rip you away from your workout, or at the very least make it less efficient.
